i learned about Nuturing minds and the SEGA school through the founder’s sister, we were childhood friends. When she told me her sister, who was living in Tanzania with her husband and daughter, intended to start a girls boarding school there to help vulnerable girls receive an education who otherwise would never get one, I thought what an ambitious undertaking and wished her good luck! A couple years later after the school had gone from concept to the actual building and accepting students I started to volunteer with the Washington DC chapter and it has been one of the best investments of my time and energy. Not only have I grown and learned from the experience but you immediately see the huge difference you are making in the lives of these young women who otherwise would never have a chance and they in turn are so committed to wanting to return to their communities and help improve the lives of their families and neighbors.The commitment, leadership and incredible accomplishments of the school itself has been so outstanding and the school now has 200 boarding girls. This past fall I had the opportunity to visit the school while it was in session and it was wonderful to see the actual campus which is beautiful, well laid out and see the girls and how happy and engaged they were, and more importantly in such a safe and caring environment.
