As a coordinator I am overjoyed to meet all the wonderful families that make my job worthwhile. Families willing to open their home and heart to an international student brings another part of the world into their lives and that of their communities. I know that even the first time host families who were a little worried about what changes hosting could bring into their lives, were ALWAYS pleasantly surprised! I too find myself surprised of how much growth goes on during the stay. Both the families and the students grow in so many ways- especially in their bond with one another. Some students will keep in touch with their host families way after they are gone back to their country. I love my job, I love finding families that I myself would feel at ease leaving my child with if I were not there with them.
I too have hosted and must admit that each time, I learn many more things about myself. Every circumstance has made me wiser, more accepting and even more loving towards people who are different...., because in the end, by spending one or two semesters with them, I realize we actually more alike than different.
Hosting can close many gaps, opens your mind, your heart, and a Whole New World!
