Review for Women's Studio Workshop, Rosendale, NY, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I had the most wonderful experience with Women's Studio Workshop as an arts administration intern from 2007-2008. I learned so much about how a non-profit functions, from attending weekly staff meetings, to building on an amazing database of artists and supporters, to sharing a pot-luck lunch every day with whoever was at the workshop that day. There are such amazing women running the workshop and they welcome every artist with a supportive workspace, expert staff and wonderful teaching. In addition, the arts-in-education program brings elementary and high school aged students to experience the printmaking, papermaking and book arts studios with hands-on projects. This place is truly magical and needs recognition for its hard work providing a very special and unique place of art making.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

my internship, as a volunteer for special events, and as a student in ceramics and printmaking

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

expand studio facilities and housing and increase the number of staff.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

their generosity and warm reception. Not to mention the expertise of all of the artists involved.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

very impressive. Everyone has a plate full of experience to bring to the table, and unique and joyful personalities.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

expand it's facilities to serve more artists.

Ways to make it better...

I could've stayed longer and gained even more experience!

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

financial support and staff support. Money is always tight and the staff, while amazing, could use some extra help.

One thing I'd also say is that...

This is one organization that has changed my life and I will support them in every way I can!

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every six months

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009

Role:  Former staff & I was an arts administration intern for one year and also attended classes in ceramics and printmaking.
