I am so very grateful to the Wounded Warrior Project for all that they did for the Soldier Ride - Chicago 2016. It gives an outlet for like minded people to come together and form bonds, camaraderie and life long friendships. Most participants are stepping out of their comfort zone and it takes a lot of courage for them to show up. The Wounded Warrior Project provides a space of neutral ground for us and I am so appreciative to have been approved, for their hospitality and all that is involved. This kind of event is a huge undertaking and I know there are many details behind the scenes, that we are not aware of. I personally was able to try something brand new, push myself and to receive encouragement. It was an opportunity of a lifetime and an experience that I will cherish forever!!!

I seriously cannot thank the Wound Warrior Project enough for all of their assistance, support and financial help. This year seemed to have given me some bumps in the road. I'm a woman Navy Veteran and a single house owner. I have been trying to make ends meet since leaving the military in 2007. Because of the WWP, I now have proper working plumbing. Also, my car died and the cost of the repairs (on a car I'm still paying for) were extremely beyond my budget. This could have been a hardship that would've been very challenging to deal with but again, the WWP came to my rescue. To add to my blessings, I am now about to participate with a WWP-Female Alumni Summit in Austin, TX. I have never been given such a wonderful opportunity to better myself and to have a mini-vacation. A huge part of this is the Minnesota Alumni Chairman, Louis Goldstein. He has always been there for me and never hesitates to reach out to see what he and the WWP can do. I have tears of joy just thinking about how truly wonderful everyone has been to me. Words cannot express how truly thankful I am to you and the WWP for conducting this event for us. As stated, because I'm single without children, I haven't felt comfortable to show up to past events, although I was pretty busy with my volunteer responsibilities too. When the notice came out for Merry Monday, I almost hestitated because we all know it's hard to care for ourselves and especailly when the service is free!! I'm so truly thankful and glad for all involved because it was more than just a day to de-stress. I was able to hear stories of others struggles and setbacks. I witnessed notes being taken to find more assistance and business cards being exhanged so others can stay in touch and make sure they don't leave anyone behind. I'm on a tight budget and would not be able to afford these services for a long time. The camaraderie that was shared has turned into lifelong bonds. At one point, I remember hearing a spouse tell their story and I thought to myself "Why am I even here, others have it worse." However, I had a purpose and didn't know it. My stylist is dating a Navy Veteran and we were able to talk and help her with some claims information. I'm still taken aback to those who would donate their time and energy to help others feel better about themselves. That says a lot about them & it gives so much happiness to this time of year! I felt bad that I couldn't even afford to tip them but I hope they receive good karma in return!
