Review for Actors Studio Of Newburyport Inc, Newburyport, MA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

The Actors Studio of Newburyport and its founder Marc Clopton have cultivated the arts community in Newburyport for years, training actors and other theater people, producing high quality work, and providing a venue of good theater and other arts performances. The Actors Studio of Newburyport, however, provides more than just training and a place to be. It is the focus of an extensive community, with fans from Maine down to Boston, that collaborate, perform, write and learn together and then extend their influence through playwrighting and performance to places all across this country. Without that focal point, the work of building culture can be a lonely one and more apt to die than flourish. We are an enviable community, and it is due to the work of the Actors Studio.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

writing, developing, producing, seeing dramatic works.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The community it has engendered. I participate in arts community in larger cities, and they have nothing to compare in the way of an active community.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Oh, wow. What I suspect would happen is that this group would seek to interwork with other similar arts groups, sharing resources, talent, skills. I know that the idea for this -- cooperating with a network of small city theaters -- is part of the dream.

Ways to make it better...

....well, the Actors Studio is turning a corner on becoming a viable non-profit, but the key will be getting sustaining donors and grants. The more that grows, the more programs will be possible.

One thing I'd also say is that...

You should come visit what they are doing.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every month

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2010

Role:  Volunteer & I've taken classes, written and developed my own plays through the studio, help found an active Reader's Theater, produced my own work here, and seen many an excellent performance.
