Review for Artomatic, Washington, DC, USA

Rating: 2 stars

It started out well but ended up bad. I would like to see more appreciation for the board members and hired staff. After the work was finished, I was treated like a 3rd class citizen in dealing with my contributions. The experience has really really made me think twice about participating again. The other volunteers I met were great!! It was the few at the top that felt a strange entitlement to be aholes about whose art was important enough to block by business interest. If someone ask me what I thought about the organization knowing the politics that was flying around for the last two going on three years I would say that the organization wants to be FOR-PROFIT and want to place “certain” people in paid positions without looking at the “little people” that got them there in the first place. It was a good idea but its quickly morphing into a “you’re not like me” club of arrogant people that forgot the reason why and how artwork should be seen.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

great idea poorly exercised...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Rotating staff positions and a leveling of "Appreciation" for the workers who busted their butts to make it happen on time.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the other volunteers i met

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

rude not objective and seemed to have their own agenda outside the mission statement

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Flush it down the hole "what not to do in business" the organization seemed to be more about drinking champagne in exclusive rooms than the work of exposing underground artist without political backlash.

Ways to make it better...

They honored those who went the extra mile to complete the overall presence of the events. The ones who spent extra time that amount in days to get their events to professional levels with no pay.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

The massive egos...after all were dealing with artist with artwork. The misguided ideals of some of the "leaders" will kill the concept of the mission statement.

One thing I'd also say is that...

i use to like the experience of sharing with groups of people that usually dont communitcate with each other. I am sorry that is going away becasue of selfish gain. I feel if you cannot help those people that inspired the concept in first place then URoff

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About once a year

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009
