Review for Amman Imman Water is Life, Inc., Silver Spring, MD, USA
I met Ariane Kirtley, the founder of Amman Imman, eight years ago when the organization was in its infancy. I was immediately drawn to the mission of the organization which has sought to bring the most basic human necessity - water - to people who were literally dying of thirst. Since that time I have watched and been involved with the organization's remarkable growth, which has resulted in countless lives being saved and has led not only to number of sustainable water sources in Niger's Azawak Valley but also to numerous other development projects that have only been possible with the existence of water. The Azawak Valley, where Amman Imman works, is arguably one of the most difficult to work in, in terms of the harsh climate, the severe underdevelopment, and the lack of ongoing humanitarian work in the region. Despite these difficulties, Amman Imman is personally and passionately committed to bettering the lives of the magnanimous and hard-working populations living in the Azawak. The organization predicates its work on engaging and training local staff to empower communities as the source of their own sustainable development. Amman Imman relies on local women as managers and offers them the skills necessary to earn an income and therefore a respected place in their households and communities. The organization is genuine in its mission and with very limited resources has achieved an abundance for our friends in the Azawak Valley.
