My 13yro daughter volunteered several days a week this summer, mucking stalls, sweeping the barn, leading the horses outside...things I would not have thought she would want to do on her summer break. She begged to go! It revealed a side of her that iPads and cell phones couldn't touch. She was in touch with what matters in life, giving to others, the world needs to be compassionate and with SROL leading the charge, my sometimes self absorbed teen felt needed, and that made her shine! As I got to know the folks involved, I too found myself happily holding a broom in touch with the animals and the beautiful farm. It's a magical place doing amazing things for those who so desperately deserve it. By doing for others, we grew ourselves. And let's not forget the horses, or heroes as they are. Majestic and warm, always in awe to be around them and the extraordinary people doing great work at SROL!
