Review for Trauma and Resiliency Resources, Inc., Callicoon, NY, USA
I attended the September 2014 Wounded Warrior camp. I was told beforehand that it would be only women which did help to curb some of my apprehension. I have been in therapy for almost 20 years and have seen little progress in dealing with MST and PTSD so I did not have high hopes that this would be different.
I could not have been more wrong. After only eight days I walked away a new woman. I am a 52 year old woman who was gang raped on a US Naval vessel 30 years ago. I was never able to confront those demons, I became an alcoholic to bury the pain and anger. I have now been sober for six years but was still fighting my past. Over the course of my week with the staff at warrior camp not only was I finally able to lay the past to rest but I was able to start feeling good about me. I may still have my moments of self doubt but I have the journal I started at camp and have kept up with since to read at those times.
I now do yoga for 60 minutes everyday, I have applied to volunteer at several local Womens shelters, and what is most miraculous to me is that I am writing poetry again, something I have not done since I was attacked. My local VA doesn't offer EMDR so I am going out in the community and paying for it myself because I believe in it that much.
I would recommend Wounded warrior camp for any past and present military personnel who have military issues that are restricting their happiness and their hope for a joyful and peaceful life.
Thank you from the very bottom of my heart Eva and staff. What a difference a week makes.
