I have been so impressed by the heart of this ministry to not only provide for the physical needs of the children living in their Homes but also much attention is given to encouraging Christian character, honesty, responsibility and a love for others. For 25+ years, our family has facilitated the filling of Christmas stockings for the 100+ children living at the Baja Mission. Rather than creating a mentality of "we deserve" these gifts from 'wealthy' Americans, the children at the Mission are asked to give to others before they receive their stockings. Every year in December, each child is to select a favorite toy of theirs and then, while they are Christmas caroling in the nearby migrant farm workers' camps, they find a child and give away the toy that had been theirs at the Mission. The houseparents then make sure that every child writes a thank-you note to the person who filled their stocking.
