Review for Christian Relief Services, Alexandria, VA, USA
Our charity reaches across geographical, socioeconomic and cultural divides to help the least of our brothers and sisters to meet the basic human needs that we all have in common. We have found that, although the tasks are not easy, there is more than enough opportunity to put the faith we profess into actions that truly help others in need. Our volunteer Board and our underpaid management and staff nevertheless work tirelessly to help others when they are in crisis, and to provide the building blocks to help others to help themselves over the long term. We fund-raise small, we work with grass-roots organizations in place locally, and we make a lasting difference. Please join us.
Review for Bread and Water for Africa, Alexandria, VA, USA
As a member of our volunteer Board, I have been constantly amazed at what B&WA can do with precious few resources. In a continent that seems ever-torn by conflict, drought, and disease, B&WA works small miracles every day, and over the long term, by providing local groups with the resources that help them help themselves. From securing and transporting donated medical equipment and supplies, to creating water reservoirs, to facilitating education for children, and teaching more productive methods of agriculture to local farmers, B&WA is quietly but inexorably effecting long-lasting change for the better in Africa.
Review for Americans Helping Americans, Alexandria, VA, USA
Our all-volunteer Board strongly supports AHA as it continues to struggle through some lean funding years, which as a charity addressing basic human needs has nevertheless been unwavering in its determination to help the forgotten poor of America in Appalachia. With a strong emphasis on children, housing, and helping the poor to help themselves, AHA stretches its budget to the breaking point to deliver shoes to kids who have none, repair houses for families at risk of becoming homeless, provide food to the hungry, and offer hope to those Americans who have so much less of that precious resource than do most of the rest of us. I hope that you will help us to continue to do that.
