I applied to One Heart Source for the summer after I graduated looking for a way to give back to a community and perform some service work abroad post-graduation. While I had high expectations, never would I have expected my experience with One Heart Source to be so pivotal and life-shaping. Their one-on-one mentorship model with the students allows your relationship with the students to far surpass one based purely on academics. I left South Africa feeling personally invested in and committed to the lives of my students. They changed and inspired me as much as I hope I did them. This continues to serve as a motivator in working for greater equality for all, especially among youth in education, everyday. I recommend strongly that everyone apply to work in South Africa with One Heart Source--I have been back two years in a row now and have loved, learned from and grown immensely from both experiences!
