Review for Sustainable Travel International, White Salmon, WA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Sustainable Travel International has been an invaluable partner to Travel Oregon on numerous fronts by providing us with quality information on the sustainable/green travel market, serving as an advisor on our front-line sustainability initiatives, providing administrative support on large-scale, collaborative projects to foster sustainable development in the Northwest, and by speaking at opportune engagements to further our industry's knowledge of sustainable travel. STI's staff is knowledgeable and professional and they have a great sense of adaptability to ensure that they're meeting the client where the client is at and moving forward from there.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

booking my last airline ticket on Continental Airlines. I had the option of purchasing carbon offsets through STI at the point of purchase. Very convenient!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

develop capacity to consult with a wide-range of destinations on how to assess themselves and create an ultimate sustainable tourism destinations.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the opportunity to work together to develop new programs and new ideas that further both of our interests.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

intelligent, creative, hard-working, and down-to-earth.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Develop an effective online global marketplace for sustainable travel offerings; hire enough staff to ensure that burnout doesn't occur; and grow staff in key developing locations like China.

Ways to make it better...

we had more opportunities to meet and work together face-to-face.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

the lack of the traveler's willingness to pay for carbon offsets and pay more for green travel options in this recession.

One thing I'd also say is that...

STI is a shining example of successful social entrepreneurship.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2010

Role:  Client Served & I have worked with the principal, Brian Mullis, on numerous projects over the past 3 years to foster sustainable tourism development in the Pacific Northwest.
