Review for The Freecycle Network, Tucson, AZ, USA
Freecycle started off as a wonderful idea. As I got higher up in the Freeccyle Network I realized the amount of total control that was being exerted by a few very closed minded people. Disagree with them and they try to take your group away by removing you as the owner and moderator. The monies that Freecycle are being provided as a non-profit are going directly to finance the lives and pet projexcts of their restrictive Board of Directors (The Founder, Deron Beal: his wife, and a friend). The Board of Directors has complete control over the organization and has declared that the members cannot vote. There is a yearly meeting but it is only for the 3 members of the Board of Directors. They are the only ones notified and they are the onely ones permitted to vote. This organization is entirely for their individual and personal profit and comfort.
More Feedback
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
The results were good until Founder's Syndrome set in and any discussion was stomped on.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Dismiss the present Board and as for volunteers to run for office. TFN members would be allowed to vote for the next board and the annual meeting would be publicized. Deron would no longer collect an annual salary.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
the people that I've met and the amount of items that WE have kept from the landfill
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
Controlling and discriminatory. When asked the reasons for their actions they replied with lies and misinformation or just didn't reply at all. This is a club or clique not a non-profir
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
set Deron Beal and his wife up comfortably for life.
Ways to make it better...
the TFN volunteers were respected and their opinions and suggestions accepted for dicussion. As it is- as a group owner/volunteer if you do not agree with the BOD you are asked to give up your group and leave.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
The fact that Founder's Syndrome has set in and that the Board of Directors has decided to feather their own nest.
One thing I'd also say is that...
The owneers and moderators of the local groups do an excellent job. The organization is where the problem lies.
