I've been a Chaparral House volunteer for 5+ years, providing administrative support. My volunteering in this capacity illustrates the priority that Chaparral puts on direct resident care - no extra staff for administrative tasks. Managers have limited office space and equipment and no clerical support; yet maintain good humor and demonstrate gentle, concerned care with residents and their families. Having a family member in a large, more "corporate" nursing home, I'm keenly aware of the contrast with Chaparral's smaller, more family-oriented environment.
