Review for PLAYWRIGHTS FOUNDATION INC, San Francisco, CA, USA
If it wasn't for the Playwrights Foundation's encouragement and nurturing, I would have never considered playwriting as a writing path. Their support and services have been invaluable to me as a playwright. Annually they produce the Bay Area Playwrights Festival (for more than 30 years now) which features readings of new plays by contemporary playwrights. The festival provides a playwright the opportunity to workshop and develop their play with a director, actors, and a dramaturg. Each play receives 2 public readings which allow a playwright opportunity to see the play in front of an audience and solicit audience feedback. Along with providing playwriting class opportunities to aspiring playwrights, the Playwrights Foundation now has a residency program for local playwrights. As a Resident Playwright, I've had the chance to write new plays and workshop them with fellow playwrights. The sense of community this program has developed is priceless.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
two ways: as a participant in the Bay Area Playwrights Festival and as a Resident Playwright.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
the personal connections the foundation has fostered by connecting me to peers, directors, actors, and providing me a space to work on new plays.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
very dedicated to advocating the development of playwrights and their work.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
make some of their staff full-time and find a new home--for many years they were Z Space, but since that collective office moved/disbanded the Playwrights Foundation has been searching for a new office space to call home.

Review for THE CUTTING BALL THEATER, San Francisco, CA, USA
Cutting Ball produces high quality experimental theatre. Re-envisioning classics, as well as working with contemporary playwrights, this theatre is definitely making its mark in the Bay Area and nationally. Run by a small, but dedicated team, I amazed at the production level of their shows. I also appreciate their desire to cultivate a diverse audience that reflects their community.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
person, attending every show they produced last season in 2009--they were all excellent.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
my visceral reaction to the plays they perform; that is, the strong emotionally reaction I have to their work which is a testament to the fine acting, directing and production value of their shows.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
incredibly friendly and open to meeting the audience members and engaging in dialog with them.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
move to a larger venue. It's current space seats around 70 and they're so popular that often their shows are sold out. I'm sure the money could also go to supporting the day to day operations and their dynamite staff.
