Review for Boston Partners in Education, Boston, MA, USA
As an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer who served with Boston Partners in Education as a Digital Content Manager, I was in a unique position to witness not only the tireless efforts of a dedicated and caring staff, but also the direct effects these efforts had on Boston Public Schools' students. Having also had the opportunity to volunteer through Boston Partners' Power Lunch literacy program, I can attest to the wonderful impact reading with a third grader can have on both the student and volunteer.
With a time commitment of only one hour per week, the Power Lunch program presents a great opportunity to get out of the office and give back to the community without adding to an already busy schedule. And while an hour a week may not seem like much, it's amazing how that 60 minutes can transform a student in such a short time. When I first began reading with my third grader, he was tentative to get to know me, but after a few weeks, he had begun waiting anxiously for me to arrive for Power Lunch. Watching him gain confidence each week through our meetings was such a rewarding experience. I highly recommend that anybody possessing an interest in education, youth development, or community service join Boston Partners in its mission to help students succeed academically and personally.
