Review for North American Folk Music and Dance Alliance Inc, Saugerties, NY, USA
For this ancient songwriter-- been at it for 50 years, on and off!-- it was a transformative experience: a chance to share ideas in a totally-supportive environment, and to learn from a rich variety of creative artists and wonderful humans from all all ages and from all over. The cost is negligible, especially compared to what you get for it in terms of "instant old friends," honing several crafts, and most importantly, encouragement. The only negative is that it is over too quickly-- indeed, we had to have a "disorientation" before leaving, in order ease our down-shift back into the "real world.' Except that after Summersongs, my song-writing is now an irreplaceable PART of that real world-- not something to be left behind at its door. THAT is the greatest gift Summersongs gave me!

the song that I composed after leaving the workshop-- which would never have gotten written otherwise, let alone with such valuable mentorship
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
how it has encouraged me to view myself not as someone who is deficient because I don't know more about composing and orchestrating, but as someone who already IS a good songwriter! At age 65, that's a pretty wonderful thing to realize about yourself!
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
all ages, backgrounds, musical styles--all willing to give to the creative process and the joy of just jamming together! Something happens that approaches the sacred when a group of people who have largely never met, come together to make music!
Ways to make it better...
the workshop cold have been spread over more days -- the choices were all good, but I had to severely pick and choose
