NatureServe is the premier organization in the Western Hemisphere which gathers scientific data on plants, animals and the natural communities in which they live. It is widely recognized as the source for the most accurate and reliable data available. Yet one of NatureServe's greatest strengthts is the ability to make the knowledge gained from millions of data points accessible and understandable to those who work to conserve our natural world. NatureServe and its network of Natural Heritage Programs help guide conservation which is carried out through the expenditure of government and non-profit sector funds as well as the commitment of many volunteers who give of their time and personal resources. In a time when individual species and natural communities are being lost to the ever increasing human impact on our only planet - this biological knowledge is truly key to preserving the incredible quality of life which IS possible on this planet - for all of its inhabitants.
