Review for One Heart Source, Los Angeles, CA, USA
The two weeks I spent in South Africa volunteering with One Heart Source made me grow a lot as an individual. We taught English and Math in a township primary school on a one-on-one to three basis. Working with the children let me see success amidst disadvantages and that love speaks louder than fear.
Not only did I learn from the educational work by day, I learned tremendously from the daily discussion session concerning education system and inequality around the world , as well as our individual experiences. What further impressed me were the weekly fields trips in Cape Town, which allowed me to understand the contexts of my volunteering work.
The OHS staff were very supportive of the volunteers and passionate about empowering the youth. Their speech and action raised my awareness of social inequality and cultural diversity, inspiring me to embark on a diversity and integration project on my campus when I returned.
My time with One Heart Source was so powerful that I saw and thought about something I had never seen or thought about before. I'm very grateful for the opportunity and the significant lasting values it has on our lives. These two weeks were so far the best times of my life.
