Review for Arizona Humane Society, Phoenix, AZ, USA
I have been volunteering since March for the AZ Humane Society (I am also a regular doner). I didn't think I could work with animals (loving them all and walking the dogs) because I didn't want to see them stuck in their kennels when noone was at the store (I mainly volunteer at the Norterra facility where we have only 6 dog kennels so it is a smaller facility than our larger sites). We also have approx 30 kitten/cat kennels.
I must say that this has been a very rewarding experience and I was so pleased to see that the animals are so well taken care of and loved due to donations received. It was also encouraging to see them get adopted out quickly so the original concern of seeing them stay long at the facility has proven wrong. This experience has made me so much more aware of the need to find homes for these wonderful animals who came in as strays (many times injured) or surrendered by their owners rather than buy from a breeder. My current dog is a full bread dauchshund who I purchased from a breeder 11 years ago and I am currently seriously considering bringing home a second (rescue) dog from AHS.
I would also recommend volunteering for this wonderful organization since it is because of our time spent that makes the lives of these kiddos just a little bit better until they find their forever home.
