My Nonprofit Reviews

Review for Literacy Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA, USA
About once a week, I tutor a fellow mom in reading & math. She and I have been working together for almost two years, and, while I provide the tools, she inspires and humbles me with her dedication and spirit. My GPLC coordinator does the same: Via email, she provides support, ideas, deep appreciation for what I do, encouragement, and immediate responses whenever questions come up. This is an amazing organization that truly cares about opening lives through literacy.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
watching as my student/fellow mom has dramatically improved her ability to write and listening as she proudly mentions that she has helped her children with their homework.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
probably hire more area coordinators and education specialists so that they are not as intensely busy as they need to be; having said this, my coordinator has always responded immediately, but I sense she has her hands more than full!
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
the one-on-one collaboration with the person that I am tutoring. She appreciates every minute we spend working together and won't give up on the dreams she has for herself and her children.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
my area coordinator as well as the staff that trained me two years ago. All were professional, knowledgeable, kind and grateful to the volunteers. My coordinator is especially inspiring and passionate about her work, while keeping a great sense of humor!
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
change 100 million lives or more! Literacy in our culture is truly the key to prosperity——or many times, even just making ends meet. This organization touches and improves lives one individual at a time.
Ways to make it better...
I had the time to attend more continuing training sessions and the lunches with other tutors that are offered.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
probably just making the bucks stretch as far as they need to.
