For more than 20 years, I've been a weekly volunteer at the Benton County Historical Museum in Philomath, Oregon. It's because of what I've seen and heard there during that time that my husband and I have chosen to support the Museum as legacy donors.

I've seen visitors from around the country beam as they emerge from the Museum's research library, having discovered diaries, journals, photos of their ancestors. I've seen classes of schoolchildren swarm the gallery, all talking at once, and all talking about the exhibits. I've seen local artists excited to have a place to show their work.

I've heard visitors say that they always visit local historical museums in their travels and that "this place is much more than the usual historical museum". I've heard one visitor tell another, "This place is a jewel!"

I agree.
