Review for Reel American Heroes Foundation, Woodbridge, VA, USA
For 3 years now we have driven 10 hours to go and volunteer our time at this event. Ron DeFreitas is so passionate about this cause, his dream: to replace our soldiers painful memories with good ones. Not only does Ron dedicate his time and sets up a table at any place that allows him to collect donations, but just by listening to him you know he will never grow tired of it and makes sure that every penny collected and raised is used towards this event. He is not alone, his good friends Dave, Nelson and George share his dream. This Foundation puts together a fishing tournament like no other. Every warrior gets his own fishing pole and tackle box. See to this Foundation it is not enough to give our heroes a new memory with a fun day of fishing, but they want them to continue on and keep on building those good memories with lots more of those fishing tales. At the end of the day when our now newly converted anglers come ashore their smiles go from ear to ear and their competitive personalities kick in and it becomes contagious to the rest of us. Their disability does not affect their ability to win, it is all about the luck and skill of the angler. Volunteering or in anyway being part of this event and this cause is by far my most selfish act, the way it makes me feel is so addicting, I will never be able to put into words, I cry and I laugh at the same time and in the words of one of our heroes the anticipation alone from the day before makes them forget of all that they have to deal with on daily basis such as scheduled appointments and even self pity. I see among new faces the same faces of years before and I know that they too can feel on this day that same accomplished feeling that I believe this Foundation has made me addicted to. This is my favorite charity, this is the charity that I believe in the most, this is the charity that I know gives it all to our heroes. And if you know me, then I have for sure told you all about it and know that this year I have so much more to tell you about, for I just went to the 4th event, our 3rd, and this year I met a hero named Christian Brown who to me became the voice of the silent. He spoke lightly of some of their pain and in the same sentence spoke of happiness, the happiness that the Reel American Heroes Foundation brings to them. To the Reel American Heroes Foundation I Thank you for giving importance to our heroes that mean so much to us. We love and appreciate them, this Foundation gives us a chance to show them a little bit of that love.
