Review for Adam's Camp, Englewood, CO, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Our 12 year old son, Sam, who has Down Syndrome, his two older brothers, and we, his parents just spent our fourth summer at Adam's Camp. Initially we attended for the respite for us while our son was
in good care. We were amazed and moved by the extremely high expectations, positive exuberance, and the delight in our child by the counselors and therapists. We all left the week feeling like we could all be our best selves all at the same time. We were all so comfortable with the other families in a way we didn't know we needed. We look forward, almost desperately, to reconnecting with each other and families and staff that have become important friends. Snow Mountain Ranch and the Rocky Mountains provide a gorgeous setting. While our sons have not participated officially in the sibs program, a highlight for them is hanging out with other siblings and special needs children. We have received important information and support in a safe setting around topics like puberty, financial planning, and estate planning. For weeks before our return, at the dinner table we ask and answer the question, "What are you most looking forward to at Adam's Camp?" The list is long for all of us.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

We have found Adam's Camp extremely responsive to the needs of campers and families. I am excited to see how they will grow and adapt to the needs of new and returning campers. There may be room for specialized weeks for campers with specific disabilities. Perhaps expanding the therapy programming to include older campers in middle school and high school is appropriate for some families who desire socialization and independence goals and the week together with other families.
