Review for Whatcom Day Academy Inc, Bellingham, WA, USA
We first found WDA after talking to friends about the flat experiences we saw at another school. Seeing their classrooms in action was eye opening. Right off the bat we saw the differences. Kids were debating whether it was better to recycle or compose paper towels from the bathroom, building models of underground houses so they could test if they would flood, and seemed to be great friends. We did have to move out of Bellingham and leave WDA after only three years. I miss it dearly. In our time at Whatcom Day our son's friends were always kind, included everyone, and challenged each other in a really nice way. The teachers didn't micromanage the kids, and yet the children all seemed to know how to get started in work, quietly find materials, and solve disagreements peacefully. It's hard to explain it all. You have to see it. It's unusually great.
