Review for Finding Freedom Through Friendship, Inc., Lexington, KY, USA
The seed of this nonprofit, planted 15 years ago, has grown into a flourishing Tree of Life for women and children in Guatemala and Egypt.
FFF’s works to provide sustainable improvement in the lives of their clients by addressing basic medical and nutritional and shelter needs. Women are encouraged to educate their children with hopes of breaking the cycle of poverty. FFF actively supports educational efforts by providing scholarships and recently by establishing a tutoring center and working with local schools to provide needed supplies.
Board members and volunteers work tirelessly at fundraising and networking. A cadre of in-country facilitators in both countries are instrumental in administering the programs locally. As a result, FFF has impacted thousands of people over its lifetime.
FFFs donors and those who follow the organization are kept informed through social media and regular newsletters. The website is regularly updated and an annual report is generated.
I’m proud to share the story of FFF - a great non-profit!
Review for Finding Freedom Through Friendship, Inc., Lexington, KY, USA
A dream of helping Guatemalan women with basic needs was shared at a kitchen table in Lexington, Kentucky over ten years ago. The future President the fledgling non-profit had visited the country and believed that by helping women to provide for themselves and their families, the cycle of devastating poverty might be impacted.
The dream was realized through the efforts of a determined leader and a board of enthusiastic volunteers, when Finding Freedom through Friendship delivered a months worth of beans, corn, cereal, powdered milk, oil and eggs to a widow and her family in a mountain village in Guatemala.
Since that first food delivery, the mission of FFF has been shared with new volunteers and a growing donor pool. Several members of the Board travel annually to Guatemala to cement relationships with local facilitators who help to administer the program , and meet participants. As a result of the perseverance of the Lexington group, the mission has grown beyond the nutrition program to include health assessments, assistance with school tuitions, providing simple furnishing such as tables, chairs and beds to families, and even to building basic housing in some cases., all the while managing to grow the business of a successful non-profit. In return, the.Guatemalan families are asked to keep their children in school, and women are asked to work with FFF facilitators to develop skills that will help them become self-sufficient. Most importantly, friendships have developed and impacted hundreds of women and children across the miles. Today, in addition to the many other families that FFF has touched since its inception, , sixteen families are receiving food deliveries every month.
The dream that was shared in Lexington, has expanded so that FFF's mission has grown also, to provide Hope for Women, through empowerment, transformation and sustainability.

FFF has made a big impact with a small group of hardworking volunteers in the US and several dedicated facilitators in Guatemala! The choice of projects to initiate and support has led to lively discussions among the Board. It is humbling and heartwarming to see photos and hear reports of the women now able to feed their families regularly and someday to own their own homes. FFF asks only that the clients "pass it forward" in some way.
