Review for Bucks County Community College Foundation, Newtown, PA, USA
I became a student in 1991. Aced my first class and then proceeded to pursue my degree in American Studies and also a Certificate in Historic Preservation. Soaked everything up like a sponge! Graduated on my Birthday with honors and was student speaker......at the young old age of 50.
I had never attended college. I fell in love with Bucks, the professors, the campus, the students (all younger than me). I volunteered for many Clubs and Organizations and was President of the Honor Society.....one of the greatest thrills of my life. I was embedded in the life at the college.
In the meantime, I volunteered for one of the primo events of the county--The Tyler Tasting Party. I eventually shared the Co-Chair position and then became a member of the Foundation Board and eventually applied for and received a position in the Foundation Office.
I always felt that I had to give back to that school that so changed my life in every way......it was the greatest massage of my brain that I ever encountered......met lifetime friends and professors who also later became my friends......
The college's "main" , Tyler Hall, was my internship for the Historic Preservation courses that I took. I met the Tyler family, researched the architecture, became a member of the Restoration Committee and treated that wonderful French Norman-style mansion like it was my own....scrubbing paneling, giving tours and helping with the fund-raising to keep it in the great condition that it embodies today. One of the greatest Mansions ever built in North American and one of the first to have central air (ca. 1931).
I'm a graduate, a volunteer, a former employee and a dear friend of this wonderful institution. It's #1 on my Priority List of donations and my attention......
The Staff in the Foundation Office @ Bucks, headed by Executive Director, Tobi Bruhn, has grown to be one of the most successful and respected Institutional Development staffs in the State......not just in my opinion.....but others in the non-profit business community acknowledge and share this belief. The Endowment and scholarships have quadrupled and more since Mr. Bruhn was hired.
Bucks County Community College: Has always been the place to know and to grow.......:)
