Review for Oasis Compassion Agency Inc, Greenacres, FL, USA
I am a volunteer donating my counseling services to clients at Oasis. Even though I am only there one morning a week, I can see the need for these services and feel I am making a difference in people's lives. Oasis is very welcoming and supportive of me as a volunteer. This agency runs very well in spite of only having 5 paid employees on the books. Each one of them even took a cut in hours (and as a result, reduced pay) when the agency wasn't able to meet their expenses late last year. The dedication of the staff and CEO, Sharon Gill, is incredible and they really care about their clients. Because this agency is an empowerment program, clients must take the initiative to help themselves while in the program and the staff supports that 100%. They are firm but kind & encourage the clients through the program. I have always felt welcome as a volunteer and a valued member of the team. I also feel that my opinion counts and this is why I keep going back every week on my day off to volunteer. This agency has a dream of expanding to open a women's center to empower women to get up and out of poverty by giving them opportunities they might not otherwise have. This agency is truly a community minded organization with it's vision set on helping those around them in the local community.
More Feedback
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
the lives of many of the clients that have been the recipients of their services. The impact that Oasis has made on the lives of many men, women & children in the community has been tremendous. Oasis empowers their clients to get up & out of poverty.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
expand services to include more empowerment requirements for clients.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
Working with the clients directly and being treated as a valuable member of the team.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
many & from many walks of life...high school & college students, retirees, working men & women. All have been helpful, respectful & loving to one another.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
make a huge dent in reducing the number of people living in poverty. Most especially, Oasis could open their dreamed of Women's Center to provide professional counseling, make overs and teach women from abusive backgrounds how to be respected & loved.
Ways to make it better...
there was a more private space in which to counsel clients.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
financial. With more funding, Oasis could increase the pay of it's current employees (which are fantastic & dedicated) to insure their continued employment. With more funding, Oasis could expand & open it's long dreamed of Women's Center.
One thing I'd also say is that...
I really admire the CEO, Sharon Gill, who dedicates her time & her entire being to this organization. She doesn't even draw a salary and is dedicated to this organization to help those in the local community help themselves.
