Review for Santa Barbara Humane, Santa Barbara, CA, USA

Rating: 1 stars

This organization is poorly regarded in the community. They are essentially warehousing dogs
some of which been there 5 years. Some dogs have been there 4 years and others over 3 years,
with virtually no serious attempts to get them adopted. The dogs have no toys and until recently
had no bedding. The dogs spend all but 20 minutes a day housed in their kennels. This is unacceptable.
It is not for a lack of funding, this organization has over 22 million dollars that could be spent to improve
the conditions for the dogs, the cats are cared for somewhat better but only due to the generous
contributions of a volunteer. The volunteers have appealed to the Executive Director and the Board
of Directors to make needed changes to bring this facility into the 21st century, to date our attempts
have gone unheeded.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would implement the changes suggested by the volunteers. Improving the quality of life for these animals would approve their ability to get adopted. They need to be fed twice a day, they need to get out of their kennels at a minimum twice a day. They need beds and bedding and they need to be allowed a toy to alleviate their boredom. They also need to be socialized in pairs where appropriate.
