Review for SLB Radio Productions, Inc., Pittsburgh, PA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I have been a fan of SLB for many years, but I have valued it particularly in the past six months of pandemic times. Because such a great sense of community surrounds SLB, listening to "Saturday Light Brigade" on Saturday mornings and trying to solve puzzles, singing along with favorite songs, etc., was really comforting during the several months when I basically was home alone all the time. I always have enjoyed listening to the show on the radio, but I have looked forward to it since March in a way I never did before the pandemic. Many times, it was a highlight of my week. The show is calming and reassuring in troubled times.

I have interacted with SLB in several ways. I am a longtime listener of the "Saturday Light Brigade" radio show and love the music and the puzzles. Also, the show is a great way to learn about community events. I have gotten several ideas for things to do by listening. On the flip side, the show also is a great way for organizations to provide information about their events and award-winning youths to listeners. I have taken advantage of that as the publicity manager for a local juggling festival and the PR person for a local museum. Also, I am a big fan of the "Crossing Fences" series of oral histories in which African American teens interview the men in their communities. The recordings are really interesting, and the program must provide a great learning experience for the youths involved. This program is just one of several educational opportunities SLB provides for young people. SLB truly is a great nonprofit!

SLB does a wonderful job of creating community over the radio. I love the music and the puzzles. I have learned about so many great singers/songwriters and bands I never would have found elsewhere. SLB also provides a great way for nonprofit organizations to share information about their events with the community. Also, I love the oral histories it preserves.

"Saturday Light Brigade" has broadened my horizons by introducing me to music I otherwise would not have heard and community groups and events I otherwise would not have known existed.

The radio show is a wonderful community resource that Pittsburgh is lucky to have, and SLB Radio Productions Inc. also has several programs to help youths learn how to communicate better, which gives them important skills.

Review for Glade Run Lutheran Services, Zelienople, PA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I have volunteered with Glade Run Lutheran Services coming up on 13 years as a juggling instructor for children and teens in the residential treatment facility, along with youths in other types of units on campus in the past. It is such a fulfilling thing to do. The youths are great and appreciate people taking time to work with them. It is so exciting to see them make progress in their juggling. I almost always leave with a big smile on my face. The youths seem to benefit from learning to juggle, and I know I have benefited from having the opportunity to spend time working with them. I have seen the wonderful things Glade Run does for youths for years now and have worked with some inspiring staff members. I would recommend that anyone who has a hobby he or she is interested in sharing with others look into volunteering at Glade Run. Learning that hobby could change a youth's life.
