Review for K9s For Warriors, Ponte Vedra, FL, USA
Hard to put into words what K9 for Warriors has become to me. For each of us it becomes something different. My story begins with my work place asking us to find somewhere to spend one day a year. I found K9, only I couldn’t find a shift there that was an entire day that met my work’s requirements for hours. However, I went anyways. There was something about K9 for Warriors and I had to know more. You see there is magic about this place. I assist with letting the dogs out in the kennels and playing with them in the back yard. They are just as healing to us as volunteers as they will become to the Warriors. Bad day at work? It’s going to be ok, because I know it’s my day to go work a few hours out with the dogs at K9. We go there and they give unconditional love. I also cook for the Warriors 1-3 times a week while they are receiving training with their new service dogs. To watch these Warriors truly transform is something that amazes me every class. I love working with the dogs in the kennels getting to know each of them as well. As I tuck each pup back in their kennels after their time in the yard I say a quick prayer, “may you train and be a good pup, cause your Warrior is coming soon.” Then a new class of Warriors come and a new class of dogs get paired and the magic starts again. See, we volunteer our time here…. But there is something way more we get back. It’s mostly though because those we give to, have already served us.
