I have been volunteering at K9s for Warriors for a little over a year. I was recently retired from the dog business. When I heard about this group, I was so attracted to it for 3 big reasons. (1) I can get my dog fix. (2) I have such a deep respect for our men and women in uniform and I can do something to help this very worthwhile organization. I believe that our government just doesn’t do enough. (3) I have experienced PTSD after there was a shooting in my office. I know how I suffered for about a year, but what I felt isn’t even close as what I can imagine our warriors are feeling. I don’t know how they survive with such a debilitating condition. Many do not. I can’t imagine doing anything else in a volunteer capacity that I would rather do. K9s for Warriors ROCKS!!!

I joined K9s for Warriors in late February 2014 as a volunteer. My history includes owning a pet sitting business for 10 years before I retired - I need to be around dogs. I don't believe that our country does enough for our military and this is my small way of helping fill that void. I have experienced PTSD after witnessing a shooting in my suburban office and, although what I witnessed and experienced after isn't even close to the magnitude to which these warriors have been exposed, I do understand the crippling effect of PTSD. Volunteering for K9s for Warriors was the perfect fit for me. I absolutely love performing every one of my duties as a kennel volunteer - even waste removal! I love the graduations where I see the dogs I have played with gleefully being so controlled and professional along side their warrior. Mostly, I love seeing the bond between service dog and warrior. Thank you, warriors.
