Review for Wounded Warrior Project, Jacksonville, FL, USA
My name is Tim and I live in southeastern Ohio, unlike many of the Wounded Warriors in this program, I was able to return home from 2 tours in Iraq tired, but relatively healthy, however, I was diagnosed with cancer while still on active duty and placed in the Warrior Transition Unit at Fort Knox, KY for treatment. While there, I was introduced to the WWP program. Since then I have had the opportunity to participate in several WWP programs and am looking forward to continued participation as long as they will have me.
I am very happy to say that after almost 4 years of treatment and multiple extensive surgeries that I AM CANCER FREE!, and thanks to many of the programs offered through the Wounded Warrior Project I have learned to consider myself to be altered, but not disabled
It was difficult to write this review without sounding like a school girl at a Justin Beiber concert, but the support and opportunities that the staff at Wounded Warrior Project have provided and continue to provide is amazing.
There is no Wounded Warrior Project without the personnel that implement the program and these are the people that make WWP such an incredible asset to all of us. Many organizations have used veterans to gather donations from the public, very few actually serve the veterans aside from an occasional photo opportunity to increase their donations. WWP is absolutely NOT one of those organizations. The WWP philosophy begins and ends with the well being of the veterans (Alumni) being the first priority, from the WWP bags with basic clothing and personal items soldiers receive bedside when they reach the Military Treatment Facility to the ongoing, lifelong support and activities designed to enable and encourage both the WWP Alumni and their families.
Some activities are just pure fun, some are educational, all are inspirational and every activity is designed to add substance to lives of WWP Alumni and supporting family members.
All I can say is THANK YOU, to WWP staff members Michael, Allison, and Luke for encouraging me and enabling me to get off the couch and moving again.
