Review for Wounded Warrior Project, Jacksonville, FL, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) and Project Odyssey are a priceless resource for those of us transitioning and trying reorient our lives after sustaining physical and non-physical injuries or wounds during a deployment to Iraq, Afghanistan or both. As an "Alumnus" of WWP and a participant during a Project Odyssey winter adaptive sports retreat I know the personal effort this non-profit takes to make certain each of us Alumni are well cared for. As a non-profit WWP and Project Odyssey offer an environment this is safe and supportive. Since becoming involved with WWP, Project Odyssey, and WWP's mentorship program as a mentee I have reconnected with others and as a result both myself and my family are thankful for the unwavering support we've received. That support may seem like very little to most, but to those of us who aren't used to asking for help or are disconnected for various reasons, support from the WWP team as a whole is a precious gift. For those reading any negative feedback about WWP remember that one must go "all in" and expect 110% of yourself, if you do, you will be humbled by the amount of support you receive. Also, when it comes to parachutes you best choose the chute from the best maker with the happiest employees who pack the chute, only then can you exit the aircraft with no doubts about your safety. In terms of professional licensure, WWP staff that I worked with on a professional level all were licensed in their respective specialities and veterans themselves. Peers that mentored me or interacted with me all were combat veterans with similar challenges -- this is priceless. All in all, this organization delivers and lives up to their mission focus that "the greatest casualty is being forgotten."

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Continue to grow in a positive organizational environment. Sustain current vetting process for volunteers to ensure quality of care. Make preparation to receive more veterans over 50 within the next few years due to the number of forty-somethings that deployed as active, guard, reserve, or other. If I were to make one change I would reach out to senior leadership in the services to show that deployment injuries affect all ranks and WWP is a resource for all.
