I am a former board member for Central Ohio Sheltie Rescue. Someone posted here that COSR is a wonderful rescue and finds wonderful forever homes through application processes, follow up, home visits, and constant support. I'm a former board member for this organization that can tell you this is NOT what happens anymore in this organization. The director of this organization has completely lost it, board members and volunteers have left in the last several years and it continues it's death spiral because it's being run by one person. They are collecting donations as a non profit however are doing so outside the IRS regulations. The don't have a true board in place, if you read this and are on the 'board for COSR' have you ever saw the articles of incorporation? The director controls all aspects of this organization makes all decisions and has complete control of all the funds. Her 'board members only have her word to go by when she provides financial reports. No one can be certain that she isn't funneling funds or donated items from the rescue to support her own dogs. The organization has also changed their application as of January 2012 that you don't even own the dog. Please ask for and read the contract thoroughly, then go somewhere else to get a sheltie, like one of the other REPUTABLE rescues out there.
