Review for Citymeals On Wheels, New York, NY, USA

Rating: 5 stars

For about the last year, my husband and I have delivered meals with our son (now 19 months old) every other Saturday. I also write letters to seniors as part of the Senior Script program. What I love about this organization is that they make it EASY to volunteer. We can sign up to deliver meals on as many Saturdays (and other holidays) as we like on a week to week basis. If we are out of town or not available, we are not responsible for finding our replacement. The seniors that we see on Saturdays are so grateful for the meals and the few minutes of chit chat. They love to meet the baby and ask questions about him. He really makes their day! If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity with kids of any age, this one is GREAT! The Senior Script program is also easy for me to do, as I can write the letters after my son is in bed. I look forward to getting my son involved in writing letters and making holiday cards when he is a bit older. The staff at Citymeals is organized and professional.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The seniors absolutely love the human contact and they appreciate the meals. Many live in walk-ups and cannot negotiate stairs, so the volunteers are the only people who come to check on them. A smile and kind word makes their day.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

My husband and I can volunteer together, spend time with our son, get a little exercise, and make someone's day, all in 2 hours on a Saturday morning.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?
