Review for Reel American Heroes Foundation, Woodbridge, VA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I volunteer every year to help RAHF. While the foundation is 100% nonprofit, the rewards for the warriors (Heroes) and volunteers are priceless. While we volunteer to help give the Heroes a day of therapy through fishing, they touch our lives far more. Helping our wounded Heroes to have a normal day, a day of laughter and fellowship, and have it go beyond that day is priceless. I will be there in 2019 again, doing my small part to help.

I had the honor to be a volunteer this past year at the event out of Northern Virginia. A truly well run event. But the real pleasure was seeing the wounded warriors and how much this day meant to them. Besides what I experienced as a land volunteer, traffic control as boaters launched and parked, I got to listen to the stories of the warriors as they talked to each other and the volunteer boaters. I was given the privilege of going out onto the water to see first hand the interaction between boater and warrior. I saw the eyes of the warriors and how much fun they were having, leaving their worries behind for now. One wounded warrior came last year as a participant and returned this year as a boater, wanting to share the experience with other brother and sister warriors. Moving was each story, each single one about being normal for just this one day. The site as fish were we and awards presented. I will be back again next year, and the next, and... We owe them so much, and this is a small thing to help them. We need to do so much more.

The Reel American Heroes Foundation (RAHF) and its leader Ron DeFreitas are the cream of the crop when it comes to serving our true heroes, the men and women who have given so much of theirself in serving our great country and us. RAHF is all about the healing process in the recovery process of these amazing warriors. They give these remarkable men and women a day out on the water where they can relax, have fun, and build relationships with the volunteers. It is a day where they can just be themselves, with no worries about trying to fit in. Everything is done to make them at home. It does not matter what their disability is, each warrior is on equal ground when they are on the water. Ron and RAHF are all about the warrior and bringing about healing for them. Fishing is an ideal escape for the warriors. It allows them to be out in God's creation, to escape the normal daily routine, and just have fun. RAHF has grown in its support, with noticeable fishing professionals joining in to bring about a truly remarkable experience for the warrior. They give their time to honor these Heroes. Ron works hard to give everything to the warriors. He actually makes jigs himself for the Heroes. He works tirelessly raising the funds to give back to the Heroes. What he gives of himself to bring a special day to each Hero is his commitment to their healing process. RAHF is all about serving our Heroes.
