Review for Blanca's House Corporation, Huntington Station, NY, USA
I started as a familiar of a patient, now I have the blessing of being a volunteer, helping as a translator…
Every mission is so much different than the previous one, every situation, every patient, different stories, different needs; that will touch every fiber of you.
The job the BH is doing is huge, and they need our help to continue doing it.. need donations and the hands of volunteers…
BH slogan is “crossing border to change lives” and couldn’t be more real… not only changes patients lives will change yours too…
Review for Blanca's House Corporation, Huntington Station, NY, USA
My experience in Blanca’s House was amazing. Everything started in October 2013, when I saw a tweet that a American foundations will come to make knees surgery, and my Dad had problems in his knees for more than 10 years, and we try to operated before but was too expensive each knees prosthesis cost around $10.000, a quantity that my family can’t afford, even when we are Banana’s farmers, even a private insurance to pay for that operations because was an old lesion. So, was an opportunity and we when to the Military Hospital in Pasaje and he did all the exams and x-rays that the Dr. Lucero asked, in that moment was a shock for us (me and my sister), because the doctor told us that he need the surgery immediately, his problem was serious and is worse because he is fat and have diabetes; if my dad wasn’t operated now he wasn’t going to end the year walking if not in a wheelchair owing the pain.
We work in a farm, he is an Agronomist, so for his work he need to walk a lot is unstable soil, and the last years he couldn’t do his work well. Blanca’s House volunteers were angels to our and some much more families that help. Even, when at the begging Dr. Savino didn’t want to operate my dad because of his weight and sugar problems, and Dr. Saunders was awesome of his pressure (he have a teenager pressure LOL), but we didn’t surrender to that decision that we return the next day, and the doctor accept to operate my dad.
The day of my dad’s surgery, Dr. Galo approaches me and asked me if I want to help, and of course immediately I say yes, and start as an assistant of Dr. Oates, that was the best experience ever, that really change my life, not only as a patient familiar as well as a volunteer, in that moment I’m not only won a new life experience I won a new family.
Thanks for everything.
Love,
Ana Cristina Castro.
