Review for Interfaith Rotating Winter Shelter of Davis, Davis, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I enjoyed volunteering at this rotating shelter. The rotation is coordinated among many congregations, and there are a few very devoted people that keep us all organized. I am amazed. The outreach is great, it seems, because the shelter is utilized by a diverse group of people from all walks of life who find themselves homeless at this time. I think the student interns play a key role in keeping this working, and they impress me with their responsibility and real devotion. This is the first time our congregation has been involved and I am proud that I got to be a part of it.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

speaking with the guests and learning that they come from all walks of life and they really do need our services.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

expand it!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Serving dinner and meeting the other volunteers.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Responsible, devoted, exhausted and overworked. They did not push their religious preferences and instead exemplified what lots of windbag preachers recommend that we aspire to be

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

build a non-moving shelter! There is a lot of labor involved in transport of equipment that could instead be utilized in more fulfilling ways

Ways to make it better...

My rabbi had made an appearance

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Support and understanding from all the religious communities involved, legal advice for concerns about safety and liability issues so that everyone understands the (small and worthwhile) risks involved in hosting the shelter.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

One time

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009

Role:  Volunteer & I was a Volunteer & I served dinner one night and brought food, served dinner and stayed over another night. I also drove.
