Review for North Texas Food Bank, Plano, TX, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I have coordinated two different team outings to volunteer at the North Texas Food Bank. Both times were very enjoyable. They briefed us on their mission (the video is a tearjerker!), what we were there to accomplish, and what the task at hand was. The "rules" included having fun while working, as well as various safety considerations. The work was simple enough, though very physically exhausting. Our first group was given a break midway through our shift, but the second time we were not and it made a BIG difference! I highly recommend bringing a bottle of water if you are coming alone or bring a cooler if you are bringing a group. The highlight is at the end, when they weigh the food you have packed and translate it into number of meals. It feels great to hear how our time made an impact!

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Very friendly, mission focused, and helpful.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Meet their goal of Closing the Gap on Hunger!

Ways to make it better...

Breaks had been consistent. We needed a break mid way through our shift, to hydrate and take a bathroom break.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

The economy is forcing more people to the food pantries at a time when less people are able to give. Word of mouth and spotlighting the need continually is critical.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About once a year

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?
