Review for Help One Child Mission To Children At Risk, Los Altos, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Over the years Help One Child has consistently stayed with its goals of helping children in foster care or on the brink of family crises. I am privileged to serve as a volunteer to help in various ways. Our family like several of the other board members have been active foster parents. My wife and I have adopted two children from foster care after having one biological child. The board and the incredibly dedicated staff are continually improving our outreach, our training, and our connections with county personnel so we can help children and their families in truly meaningful and lasting ways.

As a volunteer sometimes I am called to help in the servicing and transfer of a donated automobile to an emancipated (from foster care) young person. Sometimes I go to our week long camp as a counselor. Sometimes it is to speak before a group or a church about the needs of our counties at-risk children. The staff lets me know about upcoming opportunities to help.

Child abuse and neglect happens and does not seem to be on a decline. Help One Child has been serving for over twenty years slowly expanding services to help children and families at no cost to them through donations and a motivated volunteer force. Hundreds of children have new homes or have gotten back to their original families. It is a true joy to be part of the process even if you just Help One Child.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

multiply the number of office locations to increase the outreach , increase the number of support groups beyond the five that exist, seek more homes to be Safe Families distributed throughout our two counties, hold biennial promotional meetings with county personnel to encourage them to refer needy families to our volunteer services, develop more mentorship opportunities, encourage more working automobile donations and find more volunteer or low cost training and development media resources.
