My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Ahpha Group, La Jolla, CA, USA
I already rescued a cat from another reputable organization a few months ago and was confident that my application to adopt from this group would also be approved. However, due to one "blemish" in her opinion (a one-time visit many years ago to a recommended animal center that she hated because she had a traumatic experience there....but in my case, it saved my cat's life), she refused to let us adopt, despite my extensive cat ownership experience and professional animal-training background. Also, the adoption questionnaire is so long, it felt like an interrogation. (Would you submit to home visits? Would you fax medical records for the entire first year? Would you be willing to have someone inspect the premises?) I'm surprised she didn't ask for our bank information. I hope that all of the critters in her care find loving homes, but it's extremely sad that she is turning away amazing homes for these animals because of her bias and judgmental attitude.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Be more flexible about adopting animals and actually taking time to meet people in person and talk with them instead of just judging them from their adoption application.
