Review for Palante Harlem Inc, New York, NY, USA

Rating: 5 stars

P.A.'L.A.N.T.E. is a unique Harlem-based non-for-profit organization assisting and educating tenants of their rights and much more. Many landlords take advantage of people who don't know their rights and have instituted of process of overcharging for rent. Most of these kinds of Landlords also vicariously neglect basic upkeep of their properties, or even just practice the inhumane process of evicting low-paying tenants in order to make room for what is deemed as "income-desirable" residents, who can pay the rent prices that the landlords wants. This has been and is still an ongoing problem within our communities. The effort this organization puts forward in assisting tenants toward understanding their landlord/tenant laws and what their rights are as well as advocating in having safe and affordable housing are paramount in achieving and breaking the cycle of this type of landlord abuse. This organization stands as a continuously proactive reminder to these fraternities of landlords that tenants’ rights cannot be trampled on without facing consequences for those types of actions.

Imagine the possibilities for P.A.'L.A.N.T.E. if this organization was better funded? Perhaps some landlords would think twice regarding their callous behavior to tenants overall.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

do what I can to help in providing more funding. Imagine the possibilities for P.A.'L.A.N.T.E. if this organization was better funded and have a full-time staff? Some landlords would think twice regarding such irresponsible behavior to tenants all together.
