I have volunteered for several years at this organization, primarily during the Christmas season. They do a tremendous job of keeping down costs, and using all dollars to help the people they serve. The most unique aspect of this non-profit is how they respect the individual they serve and empower them to make choices, rather than just receive handouts. For example, instead of handing a client a box of food, they let the client shop for himself, in the "store" they have created with food donations. Likewise, at Christmas they set up a "store" so that clients can select clothes and toys that are appropriate for their family. They make every effort to recognize the dignity of the people they serve.
