Review for Blanca's House Corporation, Huntington Station, NY, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I have been involved with Blanca's House since 2006. I have traveled to Ecuador 3 times on medical missions and my family and I sponsored a boy from Ecuador in our home for 9 months. Kevin needed multiple life saving procedures and surgeries. Blanca's house had found Kevin on a mission but were unable to help him because his disease and deformity were too involved. They brought Kevin to America and all his care and hospitalizations were donated. Blanca's house is an amazing nonprofit organization. So many people have had their lives saved and changed by this organization. The people that Blanca's house serves in South and Central America have no access to medical care and many would have died without Blanca's house intervention. I am honored and humbled to be a small part of such an amazing group.

Review for Blanca's House Corporation, Huntington Station, NY, USA

Rating: 5 stars

My first mission with Blanca's House was in 2008. A surgical group went to Babahoya, Ecuador. We did many life saving surgeries, and we also did many colonoscopies and endoscopies. A 20 year old man came for an endoscopy. When the procedure was started the doctor immediately saw that the patient had an enormous tumor at the back of his throat. The procedure was stopped and when the patient woke up he said he knew that he had the tumor and was told that he would die without surgery, but could not afford the surgery. He was hoping that we could save his life. His surgery and post op care was more involved than we could handle on a mission. Phone calls were made and it was determined that he could have surgery in Quayaquil (the capital) for $1200. The patient had no money. We went to the director of Blanca's House to see what we could do. He said he could not ask any of the volunteers to donate any more money. Every volunteer (doctors, nurses, technicians and IT personnel) pay all their own expenses to go on these missions. That night at dinner, the story was told and in 5 minutes we had the $1200. Blanca's House saves countless lives on every mission, but this one was so special to me, because these volunteers who had given up their vacation time, time with families and money were so quick to reach in their pockets again. Every dollar donated to Blanca's house goes directly to patient care. Months later, we received a picture of this young man - happy and healthy - with a thank you letter.
