Review for Society of St. Andrew, Big Island, VA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I just recently gleaned with my three children, now 12, 10, and 5, for the 2nd time. We picked turnips the weekend after Thanksgiving and we all left the field feeling that something had been done for us! What a great feeling! I am always looking for opportunities to serve with my kids and teach them about gratitude and giving. Gleaning is perfect for this as the Society welcomes children and they can see their efforts literally pile up and fill a truck. We later learned that the food we helped to glean fed people at the soup kitchen just a block from our home. Very cool. We were introduced to the SoSA through our previous church and then got signed on the email list. Great organization! Great people!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

they allow my children to jump into serving!

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

friendly, helpful, not at all critical of my 5 year olds pickings:)

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

feed all the hungry people so no one went to bed with an aching stomach.

Ways to make it better...

well...it could really not have been better!

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About once a year

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009

Role:  Volunteer & picked vegetables.
