I became a Board Member for Starlight Community Theater three years ago after being involved with this organization for several years prior. My daughter, from the age of 4 (now 13), showed an interest in the Performing Arts and we have supported her love of theater by allowing her to take on several different acting projects with Theatre's all over the Valley over the years. However, we always seem to find our way back to Starlight.

Seeing first hand how welcoming and supportive this group is of its' youth participants has made an unbelievable impact on our family. Without many relatives in the area, I'm thankful that others feel the same about Starlight and have come back time and time again. The kids, teens, and adults that are involved in this organization have become our extended family. I've seen kids grow up and go off to college with confidence and talent not only in performing on stage, but also in their own personal lives. They are leaders among their peers, they know how to express themselves in all kinds of situations, they have an apprecitation for being part of a team and they have learned to adopt a work ethic and stick with a job even when times get tough and exhusting. We at Starlight work hard and play harder and it's so much fun!

As a Board Member, I always keep our mission of setting Starlight up to be a "teaching" theater in mind. I've seen first hand that our actor's, of all ages, do learn the fundamentals of singing, dancing, acting, and performing. But, it's what they learn over time at Starlight Community Theater about life, (and what I learn about life through knowing and watching them) that keeps me dedicated and working hard as a Board Member.
