Review for Rhode Island Tutorial & Educational Services (RITES), Pawtucket, RI, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Lisa and Halley have been quietly making inroads into enlightening communities on behalf of students with dyslexia…and their voices, RITES’ voices, have become essential pieces for ‘good.’ Through the past 16 years, I have been proud and honored to have been a part of this movement. Bravo, ladies, for all you do!!!

My grandson has benefited from the caring attitudes and educational expertise of RITES teachers during the past three summers, first, as a private student, and later, in the intensive Orton-Gillingham five week program. As a struggling first grader in a public school, Adam did not receive help that reflected an understanding of his learning style. He needed instructors who could provide a multisensory approach to teaching decoding and comprehension skills, as well as strategies for overcoming his language-based learning problems. As he received encouragement and experienced appropriate teaching methods from his RITES teachers, he began to believe that he COULD learn, and, after the first summer, he started thinking of himself as a successful student. I have been so impressed by the commitment of each of Adam's instructors to understanding and addressing his learning issues, and to fostering his positive self-esteem. Adam and I are both so happy that we discovered the RITES magic!

At RITES I have discovered and appreciated dedicated, competent, truly caring colleagues, as well as masterful mentors, Halley and Lisa, our co-directors. Here I utilize multisensory programs that address the academic needs of individual students with a range of learning styles and skill sets. I also have opportunities to expand my own skill set through workshops and discussions with colleagues. I feel very fortunate to be part of this growing and thriving community.
