Review for Project Hawai'i, Inc., Kea'au, HI, USA

Rating: 4 stars

My experience with Christmas Wish Program was wonderful. Having to drive 3 hours to attend the back to school graduation party was more than worth it. I only wish I could have been more helpful. I was able to help the children choose their back to school outfits and shoes. The program was overwhelming with all the responsiblity and opportunities that are given to the children. We were able to give over 100 children new backpacks filled with supplies, new outfits and shoes. Plus they were served a hot lunch and given a big bag of snacks for school time, and hygiene boxes. The event was more than I could ever imagine. There were 5 stations that the children had to go to in order to pick up all their supplies. Not enough volunteers to help, so the process took a long time. It was kind of frustrating, but at the same time I knew it had to be done. I wish that more people would be more informed and open to helping this program.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

helping to give out supplies for back to school. Helping children choose their outfits and find shoes to fit every child.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

help to recruit volunteers and find a way to organize the director better.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

seeing all the happy faces on the children. Knowing that they will go back to school prepared and ready for their first day back.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

over worked, tired and kind of lost. They were nice, but it is overwhelming to help so many children with lack of support.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

change the world as we know it. I could only hope that some day this organization does receive the funds it deserves.

Ways to make it better...

I had more help from other volunteers. It is amazing how many people sign up to help and then don't show up.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

lack of support.

One thing I'd also say is that...

although it is a hard job and overwhelming, it is a wonderful agency. Really makes a difference in hundreds of lives throughout the year.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About once a year

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2008
